About
Ben Fear is a multi-WAMi Award-winning rapper, producer, and instrumentalist from Perth, Western Australia.
Having well-and-truly cut his teeth playing, recording, and touring with bombastic Australian hip hop powerhouse The Brow/Brow Horn Orchestra for seven years, Ben now has much shorter teeth. His trophy cabinet includes previous support slots for Arrested Development, Public Enemy, and De La Soul. As part of The Brow, he played at events and festivals such as: BigSound, Groovin’ The Moo, Pyramid Rock, Future Music Festival, and Beerfest Asia (Singapore).
This new, solo project sees the rapper take a more definitively-hip hop approach, while incorporating elements of trip hop, jazz, classic rock, and world music, and bringing to these his trademark poetic style. His debut record - "Beast in Your Porridge" - features POW! Negro (of SuperEgo), Harvey Fresh (a.k.a. Lyndon Blue of Methyl Ethel), Sam Perry (previous winner of The Voice Australia), Chil Collins (The Arsonist), and rhythm section Josh Ellis and Josh Terlick (Alter Boy). Studio recording and production comes courtesy of award-winning producer Matt Gio (Rudimental, Abbe May, San Cisco).
Both of his previously-released singles - “Fear (feat. POW! Negro)” and “Lotus” - have been played (with personal introduction) on …And You Don’t Stop!, the New York-based radio program hosted by Chuck D of Public Enemy. The music video for “Lotus” has been shown multiple times on MTV Australia, while the music video for "Fear" was premiered by themusic.com.au.
